Toulouse-Lautrec
Only the figure exists, landscape is and should only be an accessory: the pure landscape painter is just crude. The landscape should only be used to better understand the character of the figure.Yesterday was spent admiring the works of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec at the National Gallery. This is perhaps my favourite exhibit so far. the paintings go without saying, but the viewpoint Lautrec had towards portraiture matched mine exactly. I just never found the right words to describe it. You know the feeling when someone else phrases your thoughts perfectly and it's almost like discovering a genius concept all over again? That's what I felt when I read the quote above.

for a couple of years now I've been trying to decide whether or not I like blogging. this blog (originally anniesteph.blogspot.com.au) was a looong trial, hence why I kept using free blogs instead of registering my own domain. I have good news: I will be registering my own domain, and it will be a completely new title! in fact, I've already registered it. but after a confusing muddle-up with trying to learn the ways of a self-hosted blog (shh, I am but a teenager after all) I have to wait 60 days until I can make a transfer. If I find a way around that, I'll keep you updated. I will set it up so anyone who comes to this blog will be redirected to the new website and my old posts will be there. This website will act more as a portfolio rather than a regularly updated blog, as I don't produce content often enough to update it so frequently. now entering my last year at college my focus will automatically revert to my studies, so I prefer to have a blog that doesn't evolve around the most recent photos but features the best. the blog will still have my most recent photoshoots, editing experiments, event/street photos and behind-the-scenes, and this 'Anniesteph' blog will still be in use until the new website is officially ready to launch. stick around, now that it's the summer holidays there are a bunch of posts to come!
